Emma’s chest rose and fell, her breaths steady despite the heat of the moment.
Finally, James spoke, his voice quieter but no less intense. “You’re playing with fire, Emma.”
She smirked, her eyes gleaming with defiance. “Oh, James. You should know by now—I don’t mind getting burned.”
With that, she brushed past him, her heels clicking sharply against the tiled floor as she left the lounge. James stood there, rooted to the spot, a storm of emotions swirling inside him. He hated the way she could rile him up, the way she seemed to always have the last word. But most of all, he hated the way he couldn’t shake the jealousy that lingered long after she was gone.
