Reflexively, Sarah's hand reached up to touch one of the lengthy scars on her face. Nate was aware that her coven had never taken well to the unwritten agreement between the magical beings of Elmwood. They were apprehensive near members of this other supernatural species because of previous experiences. Nate muttered, "I said, ignore them," and started along the broad sidewalk. She froze, though, just as she was about to turn away. One of the wolves had come into view for her. He was tall, handsome, and trim. He had the same tanned skin, dark hair, and bright green eyes as someone Nate had known in the past. His and hers met in the gaze. She was unable to turn away.

“I’m sure she’ll remember this night for years to come.” “And come back again?” Lily asked hopefully. I pulled her into a hug, smiling into her curls. “Of course. But maybe… be a little gentler next time. Fairies don’t like being startled.” “Okay,” she said with a sweet, sleepy smile. Later, after breakfast and after cleaning up the remaining bits of fluff and yarn, I found a drawing Lily had made: a stick figure fairy with sparkly wings and a big smile. He watched Arabella close her eyes, and her hand moved like a pro. A lone tear rolled out of her eyes, but her hand didn’t stop even for a second. "His scar was like this." She said, opening her eyes. Wylder opened the drawer of his desk and grabbed the paint that he had bought for Tiara but never got a chance to give her, nor did he throw it away.

**Mia:** “Good.” She turns back to her doodles, but now the vines she’s drawing have tiny golden flames curling through them. I watch for a second, then add a small real spark to the corner of my page—controlled, just enough to leave a faint scorch mark shaped like a leaf. She notices, eyes widening, then laughs quietly—head down so Mrs. Hale doesn’t see. The rest of class passes with notes, discussion, Mrs. Hale asking questions about love at first sight and fate.

"Glad to meet you and thank you for getting to know you Lyra the lycan." At these words they both burst out laughing. Lyra's jovial nature was almost contagious. "I'm going right now to bring some chocolate." Lyra finished before opening the door. A young woman stood at the entrance and Lyra walked back to Skylar. "I present to you Twilight, my assistant. She is very efficient, but her worst flaw is her indulgence, wild berries. Now you know everything about her." Then Lyra walked out of the room and turned to Twilight. "Follow me, we have our work cut out."
