Brandon’s first words set the mood right away.

The twin’s gaze softened in a way that made Ariana’s skin crawl. “You.” Ariana shook her head violently. “I didn’t push him.” “I know,” the twin said. That made it worse. “Then what are you talking about?” Caleb snapped. The twin inhaled slowly. “There were episodes.” Ariana’s stomach dropped. “What episodes?” Ryan swallowed. “You don’t remember, do you?” Her heart began to race. “Remember what?” No one answered immediately. And that silence was deafening. The twin spoke gently. “Two weeks ago. The quarry.”

Rowe had just mentioned something similar earlier this week—fifteen seconds between camera sweeps, uncorrected after last week’s storm. I moved to the control panel, pulled up the feed. There it was. But it’s ” A sharp alarm blared overhead. Then another. The tower lighting shifted from blue to a pulsing crimson. Jackson’s voice hardened. “What is that?” Cole’s expression changed fear, pure and unfiltered. “That’s… a purge sequence.” Savannah’s pulse stopped. “A what?”

But they slipped away like sand through my fingers. “Isla?” Stefan’s voice broke through the haze. “Are you alright?” I nodded quickly, though my head throbbed with the effort. “Yes… just tired. I think I need to rest.” He gave me a lingering look, then kissed my forehead. “Rest, then. I’ll check on you later.” As the door closed behind him, I stared at the ceiling, my mind racing. Black Mountain… the Alpha’s death… the herbs… Why did it all feel so significant, as if it held the key to everything I couldn’t remember?

I snapped and Gwen stopped and played the footage. "What are you looking for?” Gwen asked. The Twins appeared nodding once to me respectfully before coming up beside her to eye the footage. Hank the larger of the twins watched the screen before hitting pause on the keypad. “That.” He nodded towards the screen at the exact same thing I had thought I had seen.
