The Mafia's Nanny (SPG)
“See? You can’t escape who you really are. You’re still that weak, pathetic fool who craves his mother’s love.”
The voice fades, and suddenly I’m back in control—my muscles my own again. I act without thinking, lifting Mara’s unconscious brother from the floor. I try to reach her mother too, but the house’s beams give way, crashing down in a shower of fire and splinters.
I run as fast as my burning body will let me, carrying the boy toward the end of the street where the sea stretches out ahead. We barely make it out alive—my head is pounding, my limbs are numb, and darkness edges my vision.
