Stanley had been patient for three days. That was longer than he usually allowed himself to wait after a plan failed. Patience was a tool, not a default. He used it when the situation required it and set it aside when it became an excuse for inaction. This situation required it.

Skylar flexed her arms, rolling her shoulders and straightening her legs as she stood straight. I walked closer to her as my patience lessens. “Skylar,” I slowly called her name, raising my hand to touch her but she recoiled. “I don’t have all the time in the world and I particularly don’t have the patience to be dealing with you. I need to know where Elara is so, spill.” Skylar smiled sweetly. “I see,” she replied, looking at me with innocence and pity, making me want to pluck her eyes out. “Since you’re admitting to not being patient, then I guess you have to learn how to be patient.”

“Don’t you dare rip it!” He groaned in objection. That was precisely what I was intending. “Clasp by clasp, Lover.” She insisted. “Patience.” He parted from her. “I am patient.” He pointed down at his lower body. “That is not.” “That is connected to you.” She teased. “Patience for the both of you!” “And they call me ruthless.” He grumbled. Rolling her to painstakingly work the fastens. Trader’s Market can wait. All of them can wait.

He stopped. Caela said: "Building." He said: "From building." Caela said: "Yes." He said: "You learn patience from building because building requires waiting for the right moment." Caela said: "Yes." For a long while, he said nothing and then, a quiet chuckle escaped his lips as another log collapsed into glowing embers. "It worked." The words echoed around the empty chamber before silence swallowed them again. Many thoughts swirled in his head as he watched the fire. How many years had it taken to arrive at this moment? How many lives had the journey cost? Enough that he had lost count. But one thing was evident. It had taken a lot of patience for him to get to where he was now. Everyone mistakes patience for inaction. It is not. Patience meant studying your opponents and making a move only when you were sure of victory.

She often caught herself glancing at him, half-expecting the arrogance she once knew, but instead, she met patience. One evening, as they walked through Silvermoon’s courtyard under the pale glow of the moon, Kaelen slowed his steps. “Ravena,” he said, his tone cautious yet warm, “I don’t expect your heart to heal overnight… but I want you to know, I’ll wait. No matter how long it takes, I’ll prove myself worthy of you.”
