Once again, I felt the frustration gripping my insides. Every single book in this place was filled with a language I didn't know. I should've taken French this semester. But this language looked nowhere near French. I opened the book and looked at the worn out dust-filled pages. There were diagrams. And foreign words.

But now that money was all I cared about, something about it made her deeply uncomfortable. In the end, I got the car. But Sarah's face stayed sour. My mother looked at me with a mix of annoyance and contempt, like she was thinking, 'See? This is why you'll never be classy.' I didn't give any of them a second thought. I just turned to leave. And then Lucas hugged me from behind. "I forgive you, Jason," he said, playing the part of the loving little brother. Before I could even react, he collapsed onto the floor. Once I find her this time, I am taking her back to Obion, even though I have been banned from entering that kingdom.

Seeing my lack of response, Jenny grabbed my arm and pleaded, "Landon, I know I was wrong. Can you… forgive me? I can't live without you. Ever since you left, my heart has hurt so much." I had never seen Jenny lower herself like this before. If it had been in the past, I would have immediately forgiven her. But now, seeing her so vulnerable didn't touch me at all. I coldly shook off her hand and left her with a parting remark, "Don't forget to sign the papers." I walked away without looking back. I would not forgive her. Never. Because between us, there was ultimately a life lost.
