At the little bridge overlooking the stream that ran hot from the mineral springs, Dante stopped and pulled something from his pocket, a flat gray stone with a jagged line running through the center, like a scar.
“I found this on the trail yesterday,” he said before passing it to me. “Cracked, but still whole.”
I ran my thumb along the fracture. “Kind of like us?”
He smiled. “Exactly like us.”
