**The Road to the Site** Adrian drove faster than Elena had ever seen him, Rosa on speakerphone with Margaret Ashworth, the city blurring past the windows in streaks of orange streetlight. "Tell me exactly what you found," Rosa said. "A ledger entry from three days ago," Margaret's voice came through, tight with urgency. "Julian authorized a demolition contractor — unlicensed, off the books, paid in cash through one of the Society's older shell accounts. The work order specifies tonight. Structural charges, timed for after midnight, when the site's supposed to be empty."

The elder overseeing the ritual looked grave as he warned me, "The Memory Offering is one of the oldest forbidden rites. It burns your wolf and projects your memories for all to see. "No one has ever survived the full offering. Are you sure you want to do this?" Pain exploded in my chest. The silverbane was surging through my blood, ripping my bones and spirit apart with a million invisible needles. Still, I raised my head and calmly replied, "I'm sure."
