Everything had eaten on the road came up again and I shivered through the chill that had crept up my spine. It wasn’t a real rejection. A real one would hurt. It would rip your soul apart; as though you were tearing your own limb from your body but far worse. Even so, those three words sent pain radiating throughout my body. Inexplicable fear, anger, sorrow, and an all encompassing helplessness struck me like a lightening bolt. Breathing through my nose, out my mouth, the wave of nausea passed and I was left with the cold sweat.

Against my will, I scuttled forward . And dread realization hit me, dawning into a numb, cold horror. Scuttled. Not shuffle-step-limp. Scuttled. Quickly, smoothly, like I was gliding along the ground rhythmically, my many feet and joints carrying me with strength and fluid purpose . . . Many feet and joints. Many. A kind of sick revulsion . . . and yes, dark anticipation filled me as I looked down past my waist to see what had replaced my thin, twisted, handicapped legs . . .

Sending shivers down my spine and leaving me speechless. Okay, that's it!!!........ I don't think I can pull through with this.
