Its speed was far from the speed of the vampires, nearly invisible for her eyes to easily detect, its eyes were candlelight orange. The candlelight eyes didn't immediately begin fighting the moment he reached the battleground, he first gave her a quick glance which racked fear through her. Also, the candlelight’s appearance rung her mind like déjà vu. The candlelight eyes growled and instantly began fighting the vampires. Having in mind that the battle wasn't for her, Kayla mustered up bravery and took flight, racing toward the place her car was.

Sunlight no more could scald their skin, and fire no longer sent them retreating into the dark. However, that still doesn't change the fact that they would burn like any mortal would when in a fire. If not quenched immediately, it could even destroy their very essence. And lucky me — the room was full of it. Candles. Dozens of them flickered softly, tall and thick. Left burning because the vampires thought no stranger would ever get this far and destroyed who they revered. Well, they let me in, didn’t they? Without hesitation, I moved. My fear turned into sharp determination as I knocked over the nearest stand. Wax splattered across the floor, and the flame caught the old, dry tapestries.

We consequently yelled, raising our glasses like some sort of pact. "To us, the pole strippers" She yelled as she laughed, rather loudly. "That gives us away too easily" I replied. "-the vamps" Jacq interrupted, hefting her glass a second time. "Too cliché" Wu eye rolled, bringing out her stash of blow. "Well, we can certainly cheer to one thing" I said as i held up her glass. "None of our lives is really a cliché" "To us, the vamps" I raised my glass again with a smile.

I was putting on my shoes by the front door when Daisy stopped me to hand me a small bottle. I looked at it, then looked back at her. “What is this? I know the city’s not so safe right now, but I don’t think pepper spray is going to stop a serial killer.” Daisy rolled her eyes. “It’s garlic powder.” “Oh for fuck’s sake, you’re still on this vampire bullshit?” I pushed the bottle back into her hands but she stepped back. “Just hold it with you. It’s better to be safe than sorry.” I shook my head, but stuffed the bottle in my bra. My Uber was waiting outside, and by the time I pulled up to the event hall, the party was in full swing.

The music blasted through the living room and everyone enjoyed the music, including me, of course. Every once in a while, I would check up on the boys, making sure that they were having enough drinks. I want them all to get wasted tonight, including Alex, which was the only way for me to sneak inside his office room. "Do vampires even get drunk?" I asked Elena, who laughed before nodding, her dance moves already getting sloppy. "Special wine darling! Vervain or some shit mixed, I don't know!" she giggled before walking up to James and grinding her back against him. She's definitely drunk

I spoke quickly. "Oh," she replied, "makes sense." I'm glad she accepted my answer so quickly because I really didn't want to stay on that subject for longer than I had to. We both jumped as one of the Vampires shut off the lights. "Lights out!" He yelled before slamming the door shut, followed by a locking sound. It was pitch black in here. "Well... goodnight I guess," Doe spoke before I heard her shift her position. "Yeah... goodnight," I whispered.

The Obsidian Throne Room was quiet except for the soft crackle of black candles and the occasional drip of wax onto marble. Elias Nightshade lounged in the massive chair carved from volcanic glass and bone, one leg draped lazily over the armrest, a crystal goblet of blood wine balanced on his fingers. The liquid inside swirled slow and dark, spiced with something older than most of his court could remember. To anyone who didn’t know him, he would have looked like a king at ease, beautiful in that deadly way vampires were, midnight hair falling loose around sharp cheekbones, crimson eyes half lidded, lips stained red.
