Dante's POV I watched him in bed with a smile on my face. He was beautiful. He was mine. I wasn't going to do anything stupid to ruin that. He turned to me, "What are you looking at, Vampire?" he asked, and I smiled, leaning down to kiss the tip of his nose. "You," I whispered, pulling back and then kissing his left eye. "Obsessed much?" he joked, and I smiled back, kissing his other eye. "In love? Sure," I answered, pulling back and looking down at him.

She could feel their attention like hands pressing into her skin. The red-eyed vampire stepped half a pace forward, his gaze still fixed on her as though he had forgotten anyone else was in the room. Something was unnerving about the way he looked at her—not lust, not even simple interest. It was more clinical than that. Sharper. As if he wanted to cut her open and see what secrets bled out. The wolf who had touched her stood rigid only a few feet away, his expression darker now, his body wound tight with restraint. He looked like a man holding back a storm with nothing but willpower.

I follow her and make myself stop staring. The vampires are worse. We pass two of them in a corridor and the problem is not that they look dangerous, it is that they look like eye candy. They are too still and composed. One of them glances at me as I pass and I look right back at him with my silver eye and he blinks, just once, and looks away first. Small victory. I will take it. The fae are in a glass walled studio we pass on the upper level and I stop walking entirely for a full three seconds because I cannot help it.

Kieran's POV My vampire’s crimson eyes bore into mine, confusion flickering across his impossibly elegant features. A slight furrow creases his brow, but he doesn't voice the question hanging between us. Instead, he inhales, slowly and deliberately. His nostrils flare as my scent reaches him, and I watch the restraint in his expression begin to fracture. We’re barely inches apart, close enough that my heartbeat thrums in the space between us. His gaze darkens and the scarlet in his irises begins to churn, shadows bleeding through the vibrant red like smoke unfurling beneath glass.

My eyes betraying me, I admire his physique, every curve of his biceps, and the way his chiseled chest is still visible under his clothes. “Aria, are you listening?” he snaps his fingers in my face, kicking me out of my daydream. “Uhmmm.. Let's get through the practical phase; it seems like it's kicking in again.” We sat across from each other, legs intertwined, palms on our knees, eyes closed as we meditated. Her eyes then bulged at the sight of me, the sound of a gasp entering her lips before she looked at Xander. That was the last thing I saw before he closed the door, cutting off most of the light that was entering into the room. I could barely see anything more than three feet ahead of me. I took a long shaky breath as I turned towards Xander, freezing under his suddenly confident gaze. His mossy green eyes shone through the dark as all vampires eyes did. His familiar grin made a quick appearance, instinctively making me take a step back. The slim hope I had of those files even existing quickly disappeared.

I widened my eyes at him, but his expressionless face did not change, so I just went back to cleaning and scrubbing. "You tied up your hair," he commented, and I nodded. "Yes, I did since it's hot here, and I'm cleaning right now," I replied. Then, he suddenly grabbed my shoulders and looked straight into my eyes. "Don't move," he commanded, and at that same time, I could not control my body anymore except my eyes. Is this one of his powers as a vampire? I can't move my body at all! But I can't let him drink my blood again! I'm already at my limit and haven't recovered yet! So I tried to move again, but still couldn't

That we didn’t even notice the presence approaching us. His movements were fast. I saw how his eyes turned deadly as he gather himself with so much strength, not even a trace of pained, weak dog he has been just a moment before. The presence approaching us is too fast, and I can’t be wrong when I say it’s a vampire. I felt his gaze upon me, but I didn’t look back. “Go,” I continued scanning the field, ready for any attack.

I said, letting her think she was in charge and calming her some. She just looked at me for a minute, her eyes scanning over what little she could see of my face in the dark, but my eyes, they glow like all Vampires eyes do in the dark and I knew she could see those easily. Her eyes locked onto mine and it was as if she remembered whose lap she was sitting on. The apex predator’s lap. Her heart rate increased and she slowly moved her hair away from her neck allowing me a place of her choosing, to drink from.

Blood bubbles out of the corner of his mouth as he sputters out his dying breaths. Suddenly, his eyes glaze over—but it is not the glaze of death . . . no, this is something . . . different. Trust me, I’ve seen the ‘glaze of death’ enough times to be able to recognize it. There is still consciousness in his eyes—probably more consciousness than there had been moments before—but now there’s something of a distant, crazed glint to his glare. More intent, more focused. If I believed in Voodoo magic, the combination of this horrifying glare and his bloody visage would make me think he’d turned into a zombie.
