The bats flew off, disappearing, their fluttering fading. Scarlet stood facing the door, and slowly, it opened. An amber light spilled out, and Scarlet felt drawn to enter. Scarlet crossed the threshold of the door, passed through the light, and entered the largest chamber she had ever seen. Inside, lined up at perfect attention, facing her, stood an army of vampires, dressed in all black. She hovered above them, looking down upon them as if she were their leader. As one, they all raised their palms and slapped them against their chests.

I whispered thanks to book, shaking my head at the notion of talking to it, and eagerly began to read. The book outlined everything, from the history of vamps to their threat to my kind. Apparently, the magic in our blood made us an exceptionally delectable treat for them. I was surprised that they had been dormant with how thoroughly they were documented as coveting us for feeding. Even more surprising was the way the book seemed to sense my thoughts and present me with the answers to all of my questions. Our most valuable weapon against the vampires was the wolves.

Vera loved the sound of it and so, she quickly opened the book and began reading. CHAPTER ONE….

My fingers tapped on the leather cover of the book. "I mean I guess that makes sense, but even after all the myths, vampires still had their fangs. How did they hide those?" Nico blinked at me, apparently, that thought never crossed his mind? "I guess they just never smiled?" He paused, snickering at his own words, "I don't know." My tapping on the cover quickened in speed as I pondered before I finally willed myself to open the book back up. "Maybe if I keep reading I'll find something that will help me regain my faith in humanity thousands and thousands of years ago," I said.

If they're afraid of light --" "Crap," Henry muttered. "Dark Pools. Nasty monsters. They blend completely in the shadows, and they're basically like big hungry mouths. Shine light directly on them and they dissolve, but people generally can't detect them until it's too late. Someone had to have summoned them, but . . . wait, why can YOU see them?" Shamira shrugged. She looked around and noticed that some things seemed crisper. "Strange. I never noticed it before, but vamps can see stuff better in darkness than in light, can't they?"

It had everything from the bloodline that formed them, to the very thing that could destroy them all. And that, she realised, was the reason this section of the library was hidden. “Guys,” she said as she skimmed through the dragon book, “I think what we’re looking for is something like this, but for vampires.” That had to be it, right? She had to be connected to vampires somehow. That Vechi vampire said it himself. “Alright, keep looking,” Isaac said. They were obviously moving faster than her. They had already gone through ten books, but Syanna felt like it was right under her nose.

I knew he had a special interest in finding out accurate information about the past, but his fascination was slowly turning into obsession and I was getting kind of worried. "So it was your date with these books that made you take your precious time before getting the door ugh," I said, flipping through the pages of one of the books I could get my hand on. "Be careful with that Nic, it's an original!" he groaned. "Be careful with me too Hunter, I'm a vampire," I said. "Yeah, yeah, I'm so scared, someone please save me from this annoying blood sucking vampire," he told me. "My gosh! The audacity! I've been too soft on you Hunter, you no longer fear me," I said, pointing a finger at him.

Taking her free hand, I watch Fulton take Sydney off to the other side, where the fire will be to lay their burning sticks down. “Wanna explain?” Merrick asks as we lean down with our fire. “Dude, apparently a vampire thing just happened to me. It only happens to vampires. What are the chances that Mom or Dad or even both aren’t actually my parents?” I blurt out. I trust Merrick with my life; I know for a fact he will help me no matter what life throws our way.

or it? "I won't ask you again, Vamp. What. Are. You. Doing. Here?!" I couldn't believe such loud words were coming out of such a tiny body. My ears were bleeding, literally. I wiped the blood off shakily and looked up. He was in the sky somewhere.

As I gazed upon the delicate and colorful bone china -laden with a myriad of intricately sculpted puddings, fruits, and vegetables- lining the center of the table and the gold trimmed goblets awaiting fresh, robust blood, I thought any royal table in the land would pale in comparison. I was surprised to discover that vampires in Vampire Land were also vegetarians. The fact that they insisted on human blood lured me into the trap of believing the fallacies and folklore that vampires survived solely on blood. I don’t know why I thought that. After all, Verso vampires ate a vegetarian diet as well as animal blood, so why wouldn’t the vampires of Vampire Land eat vegetarian along with human bl
