Selene spat, her voice sharp with disbelief.
Gaia pulled the blanket tighter, shrinking back, while Valtor’s expression darkened. He stood tall, exuding authority, but Selene’s anger didn’t waver.
“You,” Selene snarled, pointing an accusing finger at Gaia. “You think you can steal him from me?”
“I didn’t—” Gaia began, but Selene didn’t let her finish. She raised her hand, aiming to strike Gaia.
But before her hand could make contact, Valtor’s reflexes kicked in. He stepped in front of Gaia, catching Selene’s wrist mid-swing. His grip was firm but careful, his expression icy as his dark eyes bore into hers.
