THE SILVER LINING
The silver lines beneath his skin had dulled to faint grey, like cooled embers.
“I’m here,” she whispered, brushing his hair back. “Stay with me.”
He blinked slowly, his voice a ghost. “You should’ve left me.”
“And miss your bad timing?” she said, a tear slipping down her cheek. “Never.”
He smiled the slightest glimmer of warmth in the midst of devastation. "The Citadel's… quiet now."
"Yes," she breathed. "You silenced it."
He shut his eyes, a faint, fractured smile playing on his lips. "No," he whispered, voice as fragile as mist. "I didn't silence it… I only gave it breath."
