Denise sighed, her voice fading as the howling blizzard swallowed the porch. "Let him run," Patricia whispered. "A wolf who won't fight for his alpha isn't a wolf at all." The snow outside wasn't just falling; it was a wall of white iron slamming against the glass of the runner. I gripped the leather steering wheel, my claws tearing small tracks into the hide as the engine roared against the rising storm. I need to get out of this island as soon as possible. ~ ELEVEN MONTHS LATER ~ The sun is hiding; the snow is falling. Snowflakes dance and twirl as they cascade on the ground. A gust of wind blew. A snowflake kissed the glass wall of my office before it descended on its destination. Ivory snowfield blanketed the streets of Manhattan. Building roofs and car hoods held a volume of sleet that will soon melt to give way for spring and summer. Until then, I’m enjoying the sight of the peaceful snowfall.

Lev wrapped his arms around Vero’s waist just as Vero lifted her arms and wrapped them around the back of his neck. The coat hanging on her shoulder folded down, and Lev’s hand prevented it from falling. Their kiss grew deeper as the snowfall became denser. Wouldn’t they make it?”

Christine's resolve was going to be tested far more than she could have dreamed. The weather turned bad with a blizzard blowing through the mountains to the north. It was bad enough to drop eight inches of snow in Highland and make travel difficult. Sunday wore on with no word from the police. By Sunday night, the Leonard were too weary to stay awake, so they went to bed hoping for better news the next morning.

Navyda asked. “Yes, and if last weekend is anything to go by, this weekend is going to just as busy if not busier. I am sure the whole damn state crawled out from under a fucking rock once the storm cleared. I swear that every fucking person in Maine was on the slopes or in our fucking restaurant last weekend.” Aerain grumbles. “I warned you. I told you once the season got started it was going to be fucking insane. Now that we have fresh snow it is going to get even busier.” Niven pointed out.
