“I’ll see to it.” Moments later, the door burst open. Veronica swept in like she owned the place, radiant in crimson silk, her golden hair gleaming in the firelight. Her smile was sweet poison, her perfume choking the air. “My King,” she purred, gliding closer. “I’ve been waiting for you.” I stood behind my desk, hands clasped, forcing my voice steady. “Veronica, we need to talk.” “I’ve such good news,” she interrupted, eyes alight. “The gods have finally blessed us.”

Alexia smiles in her way and says to her, “You have suffered my friend, did you miss me?” Veronica looks on astonished and she closes her eyes and opens them several times. When she realizes that she is seeing well, she looks around her and back at Alexia before she asks, “Who are you? And where am I? My name is Veronica, you are not Alexia Rivas are you?” Alexia rushes to her with a broad smile on her face and holds her hands. She stands up and she hugs her and whispers, “Are you so stupid that you can’t recognize your own best friend?”

Veronica looked at her. And for a moment— She hesitated. “I didn’t want to believe it,” Veronica said quietly. “But I saw you.” The words landed hard. Christiana closed her eyes briefly.
