Curious but cautious, I got up and approached the door. “Who is it?” I asked, but there was no response. I hesitated, then slowly opened the door. At first, I didn’t recognize the person standing there because they were wearing a hoodie, their face mostly hidden. “Hello,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. The person slowly pulled back the hood, revealing their face. I froze. It was Veronica. Without a second thought, I tried to slam the door shut, but she was quicker than I expected. The maid turned around and walked as fast as her legs could carry her. A few minutes later, a knock came on the door. “Come in,” Serena called, knowing who was there. Veronica opened the door to the study. With a bright smile, she walked in. “Mrs. Blackwood,” Veronica addressed her politely. “You asked to see me, ma’am.” “Welcome, Veronica.” Serena’s voice was calm and gentle.
