Haunting Emily
"You think because you're wearing a suit and hiding behind bodyguards, you're untouchable?" Emily said, her voice laced with anger. She had waited too long to finally face him.
Matteo smirked, leaning back in his chair like he had all the time in the world. "No, Detective," he said calmly. "I'm untouchable because every time someone tries to reach me... they disappear."
Emily stepped forward. "Then maybe it's time someone like me breaks that pattern."
His eyes followed her movement. "Careful, Emily," he said in a low voice. "Patterns can be dangerous… but obsessions? They're fatal."
She didn’t flinch. Not this time. "This isn’t obsession," she said, barely above a whisper. "It’s justice."
Matteo stood now, towering over her. He didn’t shout. He didn’t threaten. He just looked at her, and that was somehow worse.
"Then why," he said, soft enough to cause her heart to jump, "does your pulse race every time I say your name?"
