Even the flames recoil, flickering as if the fire itself can’t bear her grief. The wolves whimper in pain, some falling where they stand. The Wendigos snarl, thrown off balance. Each sob carrying the sound of her voice, gasps and whimpers, her voice cracking with each exhale, turning her weeping into a pained, audible expression. For the first time, her tears weren’t silent. We could hear her – a sob, a whimper, a raw, broken sound escaping with each cry. Sir Calix and I both heard it.
