The agony and blood loss dragged me into unconsciousness before the ambulance ride was even over. It felt as though I had struggled for ages in an endless abyss of darkness before finally clawing my way back to awareness. The sharp, sterile smell of disinfectant forced its way into my nose. Above me, a white ceiling swayed in and out of focus. I tried to move, only to realize my body was tightly wrapped in thick bandages. A piercing pain shot through my knee and leg wounds. Every breath tugged at the injuries in my chest, a brutal reminder of the nightmare I had just endured.

He wailed like a small child but he wasn't heard. There was no one who could hear him now. “YOU CAN'T DIE ON ME. YOU HEAR ME! YOU CAN'T DO THAT…I WON'T LET YOU. I WON'T!!” He cries were all useless, falling over dead ears. Maybe she was gone. Forever.

It was a cry that refused to be silenced, a cry that demanded acknowledgement and release. Tears streamed down the screamer's face, mingling with the anguish etched upon their features.
