Kehlani 3 years later. My alarm rang like ten times. Each alarm was a disturbance to my ears. I dismissed the first one till it got to the tenth one. I'm still having my beauty sleep and I'm so fucking tired to get up but something made me jolt up immediately.

Mara woke up at eleven and announced it. Not tentatively. Not with the small exploratory sounds she had been making since the delivery. A full declaration, clear and immediate and entirely certain of its own urgency, and the room went from quiet to awake in approximately two seconds. Nate reached her first.

I don't want anyone to see these signs and start asking questions. When I've finished showering, I check my watch and realize that it's 5 a.m., so I have half an hour to take a nap. Once he put on the white T-shirt, knee-length denim shorts, and white sneakers I'd prepared for him, he looked livelier.

Four months later: “Miss, you need to wake up or your going to be late.” I hear my maid say as I’m shaken again. “Ugh” I say rolling back into my bed. “You have ten minutes and I’m coming back in here.” She says walking out of my room. As I roll to my side I feel my stomach churning. I hate this stomach bug I’ve been having this last few weeks. As I go to sit up I reach for my phone, the time tells me that I am indeed running late.

The latest in a string of texts over the past twenty-four hours that had gone unanswered. “Where R U? Did I do something wrong? R U mad at me? Please say something I’m worrying myself sick over here.” He waited five minutes, and when there was no response he sighed and got off the bed, stepping into his shoes. He left the dorm room, not bothering to shower, or brush his teeth, or even run a comb through his hair. It wasn’t as if he planned on attending any of his classes today anyway.

🖤 A knock on Elena's door suddenly wakes Elena up, bringing her back to the real world, with a quiet groan, she cracks one eye open to look at the display of the fancy clock hung on the wall, it's already half-past eleven. There is more knocking. "Elena, are you up, I was sent by my mom," the voice is that of a little boy. Elena lifts herself up a little bit. "I'm coming," Elena said and groans again, she finally musters the energy and got out of the bed. As she shuffles towards the door, she caught a short glimpse of herself in a large mirror on the wall. She looked like hell, her hair tattered and sticking out in every direction and her eyes reddened.
