I woke up to my phone buzzing beside me, the vibration rattling my already splitting headache.
Richard’s name flashed across the screen in bold.
I answered with a tired sigh.
“Hello.”
“Did I wake you, baby?”
His voice oozed excitement, too much excitement. And that alone made my skin crawl.
“No, it’s fine. I have to prepare for work anyway. Why do you sound so excited?” I asked, rubbing my temples.
He chuckled—a low, unsettling sound.
