The Alpha's Only Weakness
A growl rippled through the guards as they all shifted their weight, eager and waiting for my order to attack.
I lifted my hand slightly to keep them at bay for now.
“Then start talking,” I said. “Right now.”
The warlock exhaled slowly, shoulders sagging, but it didn’t look like fear. It looked like exhaustion.
“My name is Roland. I used to serve as one of the King's mages,” he said, but quickly accepted that wasn't what we cared about. "This land was already dying when I arrived. A plague had taken root weeks before I ever set foot here.”
