Kate's P.O.V. As I pressed my hand on that warrior’s skin, darkness swallowed me whole. The cold hospital room vanished, replaced by a battlefield drenched in blood. The injured warrior staggered across the ruined courtyard, every breath sounding like broken glass scraping his lungs. His wolf growled fiercely as three rogues surrounded him, attacking at once. Despite his injuries, the warrior refused to retreat. He fought like a man protecting something far more valuable than his own life. Claws collided, and growls shook the air as he managed to throw one rogue into a wall before another ripped across his shoulder.

The painted warriors came away from the shadows as one. They were human-like with large ears and sharp oval eyes. They stood barely chest-high and took stealthy steps forward with spears and bows at the ready. The firelight caught the zigzags of white paint from their bodies and light metal armor, making the creatures seem rather formidable.

*Bang* *Roar* The Resurrection Cat roared in rage as the sword struck it. And then it tried to get up and deal with Frowning Tiger, but Domineering Tiger wasn’t going to allow that to happen. Jumping into the air, the powerful Tiger span a couple of times and descended upon the Resurrection Cat with his mighty spear. Although the weapon couldn’t be compared to magical blades like Caliburn or Durandal, it was a weapon masterfully sculpted by the best of craftsmen. It was the best of what money could afford, and it was time to test its true worth. *Boom*

Victory seems hopeless, which is why I find it endearing that Blake appears unwilling to leave my side—he is standing so close I could touch him.

Maddox puffed his chest and crossed his arms against it. “Show us you are worthy to become one of us, Catherine.” He said proudly, and I wanted to roll my eyes, but I kept my expression stoic as I met the warrior’s gaze in front of me. “Luna Catherine…” The warrior nodded his head and was about to position himself when I spoke, making him snap his head in my direction again. “My name is Catherine Montrell,” I emphasized my last name. “Call me, Lady Montrell, warrior.” He swallowed before a genuine smile tugged on his mouth, but it was gone in seconds. The fierceness in his eyes was gone as well, replaced by respect and fascination, giving me hope that he would not aim for the kill.

She gave him one look, and then her eyes fell back on me. "First, I would like to tell you a story. It is about a warrior named Catalyn, the blessed.
