The steam filled the enclosure, wrapping me in a comforting cocoon of warmth. I closed my eyes and tilted my head back, letting the water run over my face and down my body. The steady rhythm of the shower created a soothing white noise, drowning out the outside world. With each drop that splashed against my skin, I felt a sense of renewal, as if the water were washing away not just the dirt and grime but also the weight of my worries.

I hear my voice crack under the weight of exhaustion and fear. The simple bathroom beckons me, and I shuffled toward it, desperate for solace in the form of a hot shower. Steam billows around me as the water cascades over my skin, scalding but oddly comforting. I scrub my body vigorously, almost as though trying to erase the memory of flames licking at my fingertips. Yet, no matter how hard I try, the sensation lingers, an echo of the strange power i inadvertently unleashed.

As I washed, my thoughts drifted, flashes of everything that had led to this day, every moment, every step that brought me here. A small smile found my lips. The floor radiated warmth beneath my feet. I stood still, letting it rise into me. I wasn’t ready to move.

I shake my head, "I'll never be clean of his touch, Amani." My body shudders as I suck in a sharp breath. "I need you to wash it away..." I whimper. "Please..."

Steam fills the room warming my cold clammy skin. I stand under the spray of the shower letting it wash away my self hatred, the hurt and the embarrassment. I massage fruity citrus shampoo into my scalp then rinse. I repeat the process several times. I condition my hair letting it sit while I lather myself with moisturizing body wash. I have to admit. I feel slightly better.
