Carver's frustration reached a boiling point, and he sat up abruptly, his movements fueled by pent-up anger. "It's a damned merry-go-round," he shouted, his words cutting through the unsettling stillness. "This happened because I let my guard down. If you were my sub, Ava, it wouldn’t have occurred. But it did. Now you're hurting, and that makes me feel like I've failed you."
