“Welcome home.” Home. It wasn’t the word I’d have used but I did not bother correcting him anymore. This wasn’t my home anymore. It was my grandparents house, my parents' old house, my old house when I was younger, but now it was just a building. One that I couldn’t wait to leave, and I’d barely even entered. “Thank you, Gabriel,” I greeted back, returning this smile. With a heavy sigh, I tightened my nerves and summoned my courage to walk in.

Welcoming. Maybe even a little like home.

I didn’t even notice his approach until my door clicked open. “You know it looks prettier from the outside,” he teased in a singsong voice. His chuckle broke the spell, and I scrambled to wipe the shock off my face, clearing my throat as I stepped out. “Welcome to my humble abode,” he said, sweeping his arms with exaggerated flourish. “I may have been drunk yesterday, but I think I’d have remembered if I was driven away to a mansion,” I muttered, surprise dripping from every syllable, eyes glued to the white-and-grey magnificence before me.

The house was breathtaking—elegant, modern, and far bigger than I imagined. He simply smiled and said, “Welcome home.”

Their enthusiasm and genuine affection were infectious, despite my confusion about their reasons for welcoming me. I was grateful for their kindness, their acceptance, and their ability to make me feel like I belonged. The unfamiliar surroundings and the recent events had left me feeling adrift, but their kindness and acceptance provided a much-needed anchor. She should feel scared, but she was carefree to even mind. “Wow! Is this your place?” She asked when we arrive at my villa. It was a house I designed all on my own, in and out. Everything in it was from my own idea. I love the homey ambiance. It makes me feel peace whenever I arrive home. It makes me feel the true meaning of the words “There is no place like home.” “Welcome to my humble abode.” I spread my arms as I welcome her, entering the front door.

Some minutes later, we arrived at his home, and unfortunately, my thoughts were exactly what I am seeing here, so there is no doubt that the inside look would be the same. “Welcome to my humble residence,” he said, smiling at me. “Thank you,” I replied. “You can come in; this is where you would live, okay? So I suggest you don't act like a stranger, okay?” He said it with a soft voice. "Oh, but I am still in need of the environment, so I need some time to get used to these surroundings,” I said. “Okay, so I guess I will show you your room immediately so you can freshen up immediately,” he said to me.

That definitely wouldn’t end well. We hadn’t even stopped but I was already gaping at the beautiful house in front of us. It wasn’t too big but you could tell it was expensive. “Welcome to our humble abode,” He said gesturing to the house. “It’s beautiful,” I said dreamily, staring in awe at the finely cut edges and painting. “Yea, yea,” he said shrugging. I smacked him again, gaining myself a chuckle and an ouch from him. “This ain’t humble,” I stated matter of fact.

“Welcome to my humble abode.” Humble was the last word I’d use. The mansion stretched wide with gleaming windows and an elegant staircase curling toward the second floor. My throat tightened. This was going to be my new life. The driver carried my bags inside as Sebastian led me up the staircase, giving me a tour of the house. His voice was smooth, confident, as though he already owned the air I breathed. We finally stopped at a double door that opened into a massive bedroom. “This is where you’ll be staying,” he said.

I pushed him out of my way and rushed in, I twirled as I stared around in admiration -the leather chairs and cushions, gigantic chandelier light, the figurines and paintings hanging on the walls -it's as if I just stepped into a paradise. Is this guy just being modest? Or he doesn't know the meaning of the word 'humble'? The living room is small but it's still bigger than our whole house, it's just portable and exactly my dream house.
