Goodbye and See You Never
By curtain call, I was leaning back, beer in hand, watching Lilian mingle under the rain.
In her white suit, she wore her social mask flawlessly, laughing and shaking hands. However, when the last of the crowd disappeared, she suddenly bolted through the downpour, spun on her heel, and reached out to me.
"Come on. I want to show you something."
A black Maybach brought us down the coastline and stopped at the cliff's edge.
Like a magician, she popped open the trunk and hauled out a heavy iron cage. Inside, a dozen white doves flapped against the bars.
