Yeah, they were thankful he’d saved their sister from Call the killer right now, but he doubted their appreciation was going to last. “Thanks,” Hunter murmured. “History of head trauma or concussions? Seizures? Passing out?” “No.” “Anything else?” Deke swallowed, waiting. Both brothers shook their head. They didn’t know. Oh, shit… Mother humping son of a bitch. The nurse started to turn away. Deke reached out to grab her arm. “One other thing.” He drew in a deep breath. “She’s pregnant.” “You lowlife snake!” Logan lunged at him. “I’m going to rip your eyes out of your skull and force-feed them to you, you bas—”

Our pack’s pups were born with weakened wolf spirits. I paid for their treatment out of my own pocket, only for their mothers to drag me online. They accused me of using the free wolf treatment I provided for their pups to test serums on children from the contaminated zone, making poor families' pups bear the risk for Alpha pups. What they didn't know was that the pack was badly contaminated. Without treatment, those pups would die. To save their wolves, I brought in the best healers and used the best medication and treatment protocols. Care cost more than eight thousand dollars per pup every month, all of it out of my own pocket. Now the entire internet was accusing me of experimenting on pu

Her face was pale as she continued, "That's how your father died too." My heart skipped a beat. Didn't Dad die because Mom killed him after he tried to sell me off to some human traffickers? Grandma and Mom… Could one of them have lied to me? My expression remained unchanged as Grandma continued, "Your mother insisted on changing your fate, so she took on what was supposed to happen to you and died a tragic death in return." I'd heard from my neighbors that Grandma used to volunteer as a teacher in Nungaar territory. Grandma allegedly cured many children of their nightmares after returning home and even knew how to cleanse negative energies. She was a greatly respected elder back in my homet

He reached out and pulled me into his arms, his voice hoarse. “Mommy isn’t sleeping. Mommy’s gone...” Auntie Benita came over and gently stroked Daddy’s hair. “Charlotte did it to protect Isa. How did it come to this? Don’t be too upset. The dead don’t come back—” Daddy snapped his head up and glared at her, hard. She shrank back, scared, and didn’t say anything else. I blinked. Auntie had just said Mommy was dead. How could that be?

Any other reality and I might lose myself in the darkness that hovered around me. "Everything is fine," I whispered and glanced over toward the older gentleman sleeping next to me. "My mom's going to be okay. She's just been in an accident and they'll fix her up. She's the strongest person I know. She's the last of us. Just me and her. Darek died in a drive-by and left us. She wouldn't leave me. Plain and simple." I yelped as someone touched my shoulder and turned to see the flight attendant watching me with sadness on her face.

Interwoven with the noise were Uncle Donald's pained screams, my cousin Drake Hubolt's frantic pleas for mercy, and sharp, panicked wails. "El! We're going to die!" "We can't survive here another day!" "Please, come save us!" "I was wrong! I really was wrong! Please..." His voice was raw, completely gone from all the screaming. I listened quietly. Then I hung up. Naturally, I never told Mom about the call. Although I had no interest in business, Mom transferred all her shares to me as compensation. Every weekend, she would come and wait outside my school. Sometimes, she would try to talk to me. Other times, she just stood there, watching from afar.

She also taught her how to dress and do her makeup, as well as how to carry herself at high-society events. Over time, the world that had once belonged only to Quiana and my dad slowly became a world for three. But then, Quiana was diagnosed with stomach cancer and had to go abroad for treatment. She did not dare say goodbye to my dad in person, so she entrusted my mom with a letter for him. The letter said that if my dad was willing to wait for her, he should call her. It included her new phone number. But my mom secretly hid the letter from him.

She had done an amazing job keeping him calm until the police had arrived. It didn’t take long for the news crews to arrive. His mom’s boyfriend had been declared dead at the scene. They had all been taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries and that was where he had learned that his mother had been pregnant and lost it. As soon as it came out that Dex had saved his family he was hailed as a hero but for their family the damage was done. While Dex watched over his mother and sister the two had grown even further apart. *************

I glare, but then I realized it is not Deed’s fault. “Cuz, look at you all happy and pregnant. Wait, you’re pregnant.” “Yes, we celebrated too soon when he proposed to me by the lake, and then we finally mated that night. It was so magical, and so now I am about to pop. Sorry for being late. I just got here after you finished mind-linking my mother. And yes, M is missing, but I got word that her ex-mate tried to get her back and found her. Anyway, she has talked to me; she is doing well, and she is in Chicago, but we don’t know that. Apparently, he found out, and he is there trying to get her back. He didn't know what happened that night, and he didn’t remember him saying those awful words t

That was how they found themselves in City M. A week and the half later, her mother developed a serious cough that hacked the life out of her. She had no money to go to the hospital, so she self medicated all to no avail. A week later, she passed away in the motel room they had been renting.
