“I must look pathetic.”
“Not at all, Miss,” Ramon replies stiffly, his tone formal.
She turns to him with wet eyes. “You don’t have to be so… stiff. I’m not your master. I’m just… a fool crying under the stars.”
His jaw softens ever so slightly. “I don’t think you’re a fool.”
Her lips tremble. She whispers, “Have you ever loved someone you shouldn’t?”
For a moment, his expression hardens again. He looks away, the silence louder than words. “We all carry our secrets,” he says finally. “Some heavier than others.”
