Broken Promise
Sofia said in a robotic, emotionless voice.
“Pequeña, no.”
“Ethan, it was a succession of mistakes, I allowed him to die, if I had given him a little more time... Maybe that's all he needed: time.” His voice, flooded with memories, carried a tone that intrigued me.
That's when things started to seem strange to me, Sofia reported that Nick's accident was a year and a half ago. Why did I only receive the news of his death a year ago?
“What do you mean?” I asked as politely as I could. Sofia looked like she might break at the slightest wrong move, but I could feel something big coming when Sofia lifted her head from my lap and moved away to sit as far away from me as possible.
