This time, I would be happier. A week later, I walked into the event hall with Anthony. The moment I stepped inside, however, I saw Cyrus. My feet were instantly frozen to the ground, unable to move. Anthony held my arm and pulled me forward, whispering into my ear, “If you don’t cast away the shadows of your past completely, they’ll just come back to haunt you later.” I turned and met his gaze. His eyes were firm and warm, giving me strength. I took a deep breath and squeezed his arm with a smile. “Do I look good like this? Can you tell I’ve started over with a fresh slate?”

"I'm your first, Bianca. I took your virginity that night. We both know that. There's a connection there—a first is always significant. You can't just erase that." The words hung in the air like a ghost—the ghost of a night neither of them had fully forgotten. A night of tangled sheets and whispered secrets, of bodies discovering each other in the dark. A night that had ended as soon as the morning came, with Justin walking out the door and Bianca watching him go, her heart already beginning to splinter.

“William, I feel a little dizzy.” William immediately lifted her into his arms and left. I watched silently. This time, I didn’t feel sadness or pain. I followed Mike back to the hospital. His phone suddenly rang on the desk. That was my phone. Since my family couldn’t be contacted, Mike had been holding onto it. I leaned in and saw that the message was from William. “Jennifer and I are getting married at the end of the month. You like money, don’t you? As long as you come, I’ll give you a million.”

I finished it up. "It had all always been connected. Everything from the beginning was always tied to the end." She stood up as if remembering something. "What's wrong?" I asked her. She took out the page of the book that she had stolen. "EVERYTHING FROM THE BEGINNING WAS ALWAYS TIED TO THE END AND THE END WAS ALWAYS MADE FROM THE BEGINNING. THERE IS NO BEGINNING WHOSE END CANNOT BE SEEN AND THERE'S NO END WHOSE BEGINNING WASN'T ALWAYS TIED TO IT." She read out loud, her face turning pale.
