The winter roses were in full bloom, their petals glowing silver under the moon, frost edging their thorns like delicate lace. Liera gasped as they stepped into the clearing. “Wow… I had only heard of them. Never seen them.” The frozen roses stretched before them, their blooms perfect and ethereal, silver frost sparkling on every petal. The garden was a hidden jewel of Ravencrest, a place few were allowed to enter. Ryke had come here often when the weight of his duties grew too heavy. Now, he watched Liera as she stepped closer, her green eyes wide with wonder, fingers reaching out to touch a bloom without disturbing the frost.

The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the roses. "I'm peaceful," she replied. "There's a difference." The dream came that night. Victoria dreamed of Margaret. They were in the garden, sitting on the bench beneath the willow tree. The roses were in bloom, pink and white and scarlet, their colors more vivid than she had ever seen them. The sun was warm on their faces, and the air smelled of lavender and earth. "You're ready," Margaret said. Her voice was soft, musical, full of love. "Ready for what?"

Enough to fill the space with color and scent, the deep red catching against the dim light of the bar. Victoria’s chest ached with something ancient and new all at once. She pressed her lips to Raven’s forehead—light as mist, careful not to wake her. Then she closed her own eyes. For the first time in centuries, Victoria Rose slept without dreams of sunlight or blood. She dreamed only of a winter star resting against her heart. And in the quiet of the crimson castle, two children—one of death, one of blood—held each other through the night. Safe. For now.

The thing that catches my attention the most is the big hedge of roses in the distance, stretching around the palace like a makeshift fence. I start to feel a little lighter. I was standing in a meadow, surrounded by roses in full bloom. Their rich crimson petals glistened under the sunlight, and the grass beneath my feet was the same vibrant shade as Visaris' eyes. The breeze was warm and soothing, carrying the sweet fragrance of the roses. For a moment, I felt at peace.

I gathered a ball of dark energy in my palm. A figure stepped out from the shadows of the tall trees. He was wrapped in a tattered dark cloak, his face hidden by a hood. But I knew that stance and I knew the way he breathed. "Ezekiel?" I breathed, my heart hammering against my ribs. He didn't come closer. He stayed at the edge of the light. He slowly reached into his cloak and pulled out a single flower. It was a Lunar Rose, a flower that only grew in the deepest, most dangerous parts of the Northern mountains. It glowed with a soft, pale blue light.
