I say, laughing as a tear drips down my face. "I saw it. It's beautiful." she says, sniffling a little and I look up to see her eyes glistening with tears. "Why are you crying?" I ask, not able to stop my laugh from bubbling up at the absurdity of this moment. "I can't help it. I'm a sympathetic crier." she says, dabbing at her eyes with her shirt sleeve. She starts to giggle and we devolve into a fit of laughter before we're both able to settle ourselves down.

My eyebrows shot up, and I could feel my mouth hanging open slightly. "Are you sure you're fine?" I asked slowly. "You were crying just a few minutes ago, and now you're suddenly laughing." She wiped her eyes with her sleeve, still giggling. "Sorry, it's the hormones." She looked at my face and started laughing again. "Your face is just so priceless. Do I take a picture?" I stared at her, my jaw working as I tried to process what was happening. "Really? You're sure you're in pain? You're laughing so well right now."

For a moment, we just stared at each other. “What did you do that for?” I screamed. “For everything you made me go through,” he screamed back, “For threatening my life, for asking me to shout an announcement from the rooftop where I could fall and die.” Tears streamed down my face as laughter bubbled up from deep within me, creating a jarring mix of emotions. My body shook with sobs, but my mouth curved into a smile, releasing a choked giggle. The contrast was disorienting, as if my heart and mind were at war. The laughter seemed to come from a place of absurdity, while the tears flowed from a depth of sadness.

I wipe at my face once. Then again. And stand there for a moment longer, letting both things exist at the same time. The laughter. And the ache that comes with it.

Creating wet tracks through her makeup. "My dynamic duo is awake!" she said through her sobs. Her voice was thick and choked. "Oh my God! I cannot believe it! This is the best day ever!" She was crying and laughing simultaneously. Making those weird hiccupping sounds that come from trying to do both at once.

The laughter was beyond me now, pulling me under like a wave. It tore through me, wild and uncontrollable, my body shaking as I clutched my chest. Wheezes slipped out between gasps for air. Fat tears began streaming down my cheeks, leaving hot, wet trails as I laughed and cried all at once. I tried to stop, tried to rein it in, but every attempt only made me laugh harder. My reflection blurred in the mirror as the tears thickened, but still I couldn't stop. "No, no, no, no, Tina..." I muttered between gulps of laughter, shaking my head violently. "This can't be happening..." The words came out broken, punctuated by giggles and sobs alike.
