His foot had been caught by the broken bars of the gate, bullet holes dotted his leg and his head was a mess of brain matter and blood. These and the drugs had been left behind. Too much evidence and too many unanswered questions. Then his eyes slowly moved toward, toward the corner of the building where a tiny red light blinked once. He waited… and then it blinked again. It was still active. Ryan caught the device too and his expression changes immediately. “Wait…” he muttered, his eyes narrowing. James stared at the old security camera above them. Its metal plating was covered in dust, but the tiny red indicator continued flashing, showing that it was still recording.

The alarm went from solid red to a blinking red. On the third blink, a special alarm went off in the security room and the door locked behind the interloper. Down in the hotel’s security room everyone saw this and three men scrambled. One got on the phone while the other two sat at monitors searching for the breach. One of the men located the blinking red light and when he announced where it was located, all three men gasped. A moment later, Yuri walked through the door, followed closely by yet another man.

-MATT- It was Saturday afternoon, and I was heading home to drop my sports gear before going out. As soon as I approached the door, I heard the smoke detector ringing. I opened the front door in a hurry, just in time to find the apartment full of thin fog. Looking up at the small wisps of smoke that dissipated into the air, Cutter shrugged. “Not any more smoke than burned popcorn, which is a daily occurrence around here.”

I asked again seeming really curious, I needed to see where this was going “I suspected that something was wrong because the building in question, as well as most buildings in New York, has these sprinklers for fires, and these sprinklers are made to alert the house immediately it notices a smoke and it immediately starts dropping down water. Most people even complain about it because it goes off from just detecting normal cooking smoke.” He replied again “So how was it that she did not wake up to see the fire, even after the warnings?” I asked, getting a hint of what he was saying.

Loss tilted my head up, his lips nearing closer, and closer to me, until- There's pounding on my door, and Loss and I both turn to it, hearing the voices of my concerned neighbors. Before I can tell Loss to go in my room, or my restroom, he's gone, not letting me say another word. I quickly open the door, seeing my balding neighbor who is wearing his ribe, his gray eyes wide with concern. "Are you okay, ma'am?" he asks, and before I can answer, he barges past me, looking around wildly. "I heard your smoke detector go off, and there was smoke coming out from under your door."

I don’t reply to his question, asking another one instead. “Yes, I can. But why are you asking?” I give him a second to see if he will put two and two together, when he doesn’t get it immediately, I nod and smirk a little. “Trust me.” That was all the warning I gave before I threw the grenade to the opposite side of us. It goes off, smoke starts to fill the place almost immediately. I nod to myself, glad that I was right about them putting smoke fire sensors. It is a new kind of technology that makes a room almost instantly fill with fumes when a small fire is started.

I stand back as the flames start to build, watching as tendrils of dark smoke slowly rise to the smoke detector fixed to the ceiling. “Five… four… three… two… one…” I snap my fingers and just like magic, the shrill sound of the smoke alarm pierces the air. I shut my eyes and wait patiently for what’s coming. I don’t have to wait for long because three seconds later, someone tries to unlock the door. I’m sure that person is Duncan. He’s probably screaming my name at the moment but the door is sound proof so I can’t hear a thing. When he realizes that I won’t open up, he starts pounding on the door.

I coughed hard as I sat up on the bed and tried to make sense of what was happening. The room was dimmed and hazy. I could barely see past my hand despite the light I turned on. I tried to picture where the door was and realized more of the choking fog was coming into the room. My heart started racing as the tempo increased. What was happening? I got up from the bed and tried to move, and that was when I noticed the dancing red light coming from outside the window.
