Jacob turned and vanished back into the crowd as swiftly as he'd approached. Anika sipped her wine and pretended to be unconcerned as she felt Casper approach in. It was impossible to overlook him. When he was near, her body seemed to heat up. And his scent. Despite the noise and bustle of the busy room and the blend of so many feminine scents, she could detect his distinct scent. Rough. Masculine and tantalizingly seductive. It made no sense to her, but she was sensitive to it. "Anika," he whispered.

Star gazing Once again the wolfsbane does the trick and I wake up feeling refreshed having had no bad dreams. I check the time and I’ve missed lunch! I head downstairs to find everyone playing a board game in the front room. “What’s going on?” I smile at their bickering. “Tucker is cheating…” Blake exhales her breath in frustration. “I’m not cheating, your just a sore loser!” He smirks taking game money out of her hands. “You’re out!”

I ignore the other women and head to the kitchen. Gabriella and Lupe are sitting at the table. I sit down with them and place my face in my hands for three seconds before lifting my head. “The wicked witch is gone. Her tribe wants to play a game called Zilch and they’re setting up in the formal dining room. I’ve been asked to join them, and I’m inviting the two of you to play also.” Gabriella’s string of Spanish is fast and loud. “Please,” I say as I hold up my hand and lower it quickly when I see the look in her eyes. “This keeps them all in one general location, which is safer. I’m not asking you to make friends with them, just kill some time.”

The sigils beneath my feet pulse erratically. Nyxara laughs, sharp and brittle. “You don’t get to refuse. That’s not how the Game works.” Dax steps forward until he’s between me and the blade. “Then the Game is broken,” he says simply. The air splits. A crack races across the arena floor, jagged and violent. The sigils flicker, some dimming entirely. Nyxara stumbles back a step. “No,” she snaps. “Stop this.” I feel it then, the shift. The Game isn’t reacting to defiance. It’s reacting to choice. My choice.

Emma’s heart hadn’t stopped racing since they’d stumbled into this trap, and Jake’s hand still remained on her hip. Jake’s eyes glinted mischievously and he pulled away from her a little, burying his hands in his pockets. “We’re stuck,” he said, voice low, “so let’s make it fun. Let’s play a game Truth or dare, Em. Keep things interesting.” Emma’s brow arched, skepticism warring with the restlessness clawing at her chest. She needed to stay busy, to drown out the noise in her head.

She closed her eyes briefly. 'You are playing a game, and games have rules' she reminded herself. She would not let how dangerously good Dominic Rourke looked make her forget that. 'He is just a tool in this game.' She told herself as she left the mall.

"Oh, this is bad." I already knew. Truth or Dare. Of course. Of all the games they could have picked. Of course it had to be that one. I watched Wren glance down at the bottle before looking toward Gen with obvious confusion. Gen looked far too excited. Adrian looked amused. The rest of the group was already cheering. And suddenly I had a very bad feeling. A very, very bad feeling. Because Wren Carter was about to play a game with a bunch of strangers. A game that thrived on embarrassing questions and terrible decisions.

“Mr. Nixon! We were just... playing a game with the new girl.” Avery’s legs were dead weight. She collapsed again, but this time she did it with purpose. She twisted her body, using the maid who had kicked her as a cushion. Avery landed hard on the woman’s waist. A sharp crack and a shriek of pain followed—a small mercy of retribution. The maid opened her mouth to snarl, but she froze under Ewing’s icy, judgmental stare.

He remembered when he would try to tell him about the slave's game, and he'd shunned it nonchalantly. The pen dances between his fingers with his lips shut tight. ' Elora,' his mind called and he turned towards Magnus, " What kind of game are they playing?" he asked, " One to rank up to the higher division," " What kind of game is it?" he asked impatiently, " Wolf wrestle, they pair in groups and two groups fight one another in pairs like that with their own set rules, but most times it gets brutal that some might end up dying, the weaker ones especially," he explained,

"We also have a wide yard where Papa and I would play soccer and... and there is also a large TV and a room filled with a lot of books." "I also have a wide yard where you can play soccer all day. I also have a theater inside the mansion and a library probably bigger than the one in that bastard's house," Hyperion commented. "What is a bastard?" "Nothing. Don't say that word again. Your mom might kill me."
