Chapter 3-The Widow’s refusal Marriage. The word echoed through her ears and mind. It didn’t make any sense. She was still in mourning. According to psychologists, widows tend to suffer a small stage of delirium through their grief. Victoria posed what she just heard as that—her mind playing games with her. “Toria.” Her mother muttered from behind her, “It’s for the best. Marrying Vincent is for— “Marriage?” She cut her off, “This isn’t a joke?!”

Sophia asked again. "Johan needs a new woman to take his wife's place," Claudia replied. "Wait... so, Johan already has a wife?" Sophia was very surprised to hear that. "They will be divorced soon." Sophia was intrigued by this. She thought it was a challenge and she needed to meet Johan as soon as possible. Sophia leaned her back against the chair and smiled mysteriously. A man from an influential family was about to divorce his wife and was desperate to find a new partner. "Alright, I agree to meet him later. You just arrange a good time for me to meet him." Sophia took another sip of her drink.

They were gone, they were dying slowly but surely as they surrendered to darkness. No cries were heard but that was even worse. How many had escaped? My chest moved up and down, my eyes moving over. I was sure many of the widows had died and they had been thrown in the fire. How could something like this happen? How could something so cruel happen? How could something so heartbreaking hap

Even Ethan’s flickering slowed, like he was listening. Amara crossed her arms. “You’re asking us to choose sides in a war between wives.” “It’s not about wives anymore,” Olivia replied. “It’s about survival.” Ciara raised a brow. “Whose survival?” “All women,” Olivia said simply. “Because if the Widow rises unchecked, she won’t stop at me. She won’t stop at Ethan. She won’t stop at Jessica.” Her voice lowered. “She will tear through every woman with power. Every woman who ever loved. They were the widows whose fates were to be mated with another creature, and so their offspring were considered hybrid and least among the least of the kingdom’s subjects. Some of their husbands were sent to be forced workers in the mining industry, while the others were sent to farming in the farthest regions. Some of them agreed to be servants until tragedy at work came and made them lose their lives, but some who could not endure escaped and did not return to their wives.
