Wind whipped up around us in heavy, howling gusts that bent the trees and snuffed half the candles.
Dirt and leaves swirled in a vortex, stinging my eyes, but I didn't let go. Astraea roared inside me, her warrior strength fusing with the healing light, pushing deeper.
The demon resisted, Roman’s body bucking so hard the wheelchair creaked, threatening to break apart.
"Leave him now!" I commanded, my voice booming with power.
With a final, agonizing push, it ripped out of him.
A thick black mass erupted from Roman's mouth and chest. It was smoky, writhing like living ink, lashing at the air with god-awful shrieks. The wind howled louder, nearly knocking Tara off her feet.
