She hailed a taxi and headed straight to the airport. In the distance, fire raged against the backdrop of the star-lit skies.

To the person on the phone they were the Tower of Glass a monument to excess that was finally falling. The Phoenix Doctrine was the plan for the Vane familys survival. It said you have to burn everything down to start again. Stephen knew that fire does not care about the people it hurts. He looked at his hands. Kiara’s eyes widened, she had never seen one before and she had always wished to watch a meteor shower. “You’re kidding me.” she uttered breathlessly in disbelief and rubbed her bare arm as a wind of cold air gushed. It had always been like that... seeming it was going to rain. but then, the hot sun would take its reign after the non-burning twilight.

The frosty residue clung to Phoenix's cheeks and nose, transforming the scene into a comical spectacle that left both men erupting in peals of laughter. A frown descended upon Phoenix's features, much like a frostbite creeping up from his chilled cheeks. "Really, Blaze?" he began, his tone conveying mock exasperation, "it's not even winter yet. Would you like me to throw a lightnin' bolt at you instead!" With a kittenish swipe, he brushes away the clinging snow from his face.

The space seemed to be torn apart. The rift became larger before finally, an expanse of light showed up. Coo! A phoenix’s loud shriek came out of the void. Covered with golden light, it resounded through the world. Immediately afterward, the crowd saw a golden, earth-shattering phoenix flapping its wings while rushing out of that unknown void. It was too stunning. It was simply amazing. At that moment, almost everyone in California was looking up to the skies. When the people in the houses heard the phoenix’s loud cry, they ran to the windows and poked their heads out to look at the sky.

I just kept walking, my legs moving on autopilot as tears streamed down my face. I needed to get away. From the hospital, from them, from everything. The staircase was right in front of me, and I climbed it without hesitation, one step at a time, until I reached the roof. The cold wind hit me as I stepped out onto the rooftop, but I barely noticed. All I could think about was the void below. The empty space that promised peace.
