Ears twitched. A second later, the sky screamed. Something tore through the clouds above, wreathed in fire and shadow. Ekreth. He broke the heavens like a spear of flame. His dragon form was massive - larger than she remembered. His wings stretched wider than the valley, edged in burning gold. Scales glinted like obsidian, runes etched deep into his sides, glowing faintly with each beat of his wings. Fire licked at his maw, and his eyes - those terrible, beautiful eyes - glowed with fury.

Heat washed across my skin. I braced for pain. Instead, warmth settled into my bones. The sensation startled me. The fire felt familiar. Comforting.
