The biting winter winds could freeze the blood with the cold trailing in under their clothes, washing over their warm skin, threatening to stay if they stopped moving. Then, as the fog lessened, they stepped into a winter wonderland. The landscape had a quietness within as snowflakes danced in the blinding light. It was as if this land had been frozen still, and time with it, into an eternal coldness.

She was an intruder in this frozen domain, an unwanted guest in a realm ruled by winter's wrath. With each step, the snow crunched beneath her sandals, sinking up to her knees. The wind relentlessly whipped at her clothing, biting through her layers and numbing her limbs.
