The heating system groaned, but the wind still slipped through the curtains. Frost crawled over the tall windows, locking out the world and turning the Midnight estate into its own little ice palace.

Winter arrived gently. Snow fell like sifted sugar across the hills, covering the ravine behind their cabin in shimmering white. Emma stood at the window, sipping tea, watching the soft descent of silence. It was a different kind of winter than the ones at The Hearth less harsh, more introspective.

Eloise’ POV “The winter is coming…” I whispered by the window as I saw the fog blurring out my vision of the scenery. Winter like this are something I hate. I could remember how I spent my time in the basement feeling colder than ever with no one to hand me a single coat. This is the time of the season where I am always on the verge of freezing to death and no one would even care because omegas were never important. The open creeks in the doors and the snow getting winded up inside… I can still feel the shiver down my spine.

They stood there, stunned, staring at the heavy snowfall blanketing everything in white. I had no idea the Winter Games were a thing. Apparently they were a big thing. A wolf tradition. A yearly event where the entire pack gathered to celebrate winter by using snow as a weapon, ice as a hazard, and competitive spirit as an excuse for everyone to behave like lunatics. Elara woke me before sunrise by jumping onto my bed. “Aveline. Get up. It is Winter Games day.” I groaned into my pillow. “I do not want to play anything before breakfast.”

Just like what happened to me in my previous life. When I heard of their death, the weight on me was instantly relieved. Those who brought about my tragic end were gone at last. The winter of my life ended, and I was heading toward spring.
