I understood now why my grandmother had been afraid. A forced dissolution did not simply sever the bond. It severed the witch's capacity to hold one. The part of you that had opened, that had recognized, that had said yes before your mind had any say in the matter—that part did not survive the rite intact. My grandmother had written it plainly, in the careful hand of a woman who believed that careless letters led to careless understanding. The rite does not distinguish. It simply cuts. What remains functions. What remains is whole in every measurable sense. But something is missing from it, the way a room is missing something when the windows have been sealed for too long. Gharp goes to aid him. “Tia,” Sophii whispers to me, catching my attention, “, if it comes down to it, I heard that witch’s amulets can be destroyed with something in particular.” Reaching into her specially sewn in pockets she pulls out what looks to be a very short dagger. “A dagger that has been blessed by the Lake of Gods. Most of our daggers in the village have been blessed, since it aids in killing Skelly’s should they ever travel into the village to harm us.” The dagger itself was nothing particularly special. The blade appeared somewhat blunt and the hilt was wrapped up in a dark brown cloth. I nodded, accepting the blade even though I was sure it wouldn’t be that useful to me. I nee

I said, my voice shaking slightly. "Good," he replied, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. "VH14 is a drug that was created by your father, as you may or may not know. When injected into the body, the person who receives it will follow the first instruction given to them by the first person they see. They'll see that person as their master, as their God, and will be willing to do anything to please them, even if it means killing themselves."

He urged, and I stood up immediately ready to correct my wrongs. **************************************************************************************** I took a large bowl of salt and sprinkled a handful of it on the exterior of the doorways and windows of the man's shop. Arkalis had trusted me yet again to take care of the cleansing of the man's shop. And for this I am prepared to do better. I don't really have to wait for midnight just like the other ritual I carried out the last time, this can be done even in day time. I Light a white candle in a large fireproof bowl then combined,

She said, using the pad of her thumb to run circles against the inside of his wrist. Chloe's grandmother had taught it to her when she was little; it was a kind of calming technique with soft pressure against the pulse beating at the wrist, and so far, it had been effective. "Just stay far away from her,” he said, his voice calmer than it was a few minutes. For a split second, Chloe wondered how Zach knew about her meeting Ally, but she realized that it wasn't important. Besides, this town had its way of getting information to circulate, only whatever he heard was half-baked.

he begged. “Just be a good boy and do what I asked you to do,” Zoe declared and stood up, taking her bag. “But remember, if you dare try to come hunting me down, buy your funeral casket down first. Have a grievous day, Mr Smith,” Zoe threatened, wore her sunshade, and walked out. “Goddamn it! I’m doomed!” Mr Smith cried, biting his finger in regret. “This girl is a witch! Liyana has ruined me!”

The rest remained cooped up in their bed, not speaking to me. I had always worn my family’s amulet wherever I went. The only times I would ever remove it was when I had to take a shower where I would place it at my bed or my table. This meant the only ones who could ever get to it were my dorm mates. Job told me that if I wanted to reverse what had been done to me, I had to find the person who did this to me. Otherwise, my health and fortune were going to continue its gradual decline. Even if I were to outlast my illness, I was going to be haunted by evil spirits which would eventually bring death!

Didn't she say they burned witches at the stake? Oh crap. Time to cut and run. I raised my hands to attack him. Rules or no rules, I was not sticking around to let him tie me to a post and set me on fire like a good little girl. No way. But as I focused on him, he gestured again and white powder flew from his hand. It drifted through my shield easily, meant to block paranormal energy, not physical matter. It clouded around my head, forming a shimmering haze I had no choice but to inhale.

It was deliberate corruption, intentional sabotage by something or someone with the knowledge and power to affect a realm that should have been beyond such interference. That night, I lit the sacred silver fires beneath the twin moons and performed an ancient ritual meant to cleanse lingering negative energy, to purify spaces corrupted by outside influence. The cosmic winds whispered back in response to my invocations, but not in the harmonious affirmation I expected.
