MY SAVING DOOM
Nanya lying awake, whispering my name into the dark.
Each small ache struck through me like arrows. The sting on her palm, the hollow in her chest—all of it translated into my own body, foreign and unbearable.
I staggered forward, panting. “Stop—please, stop!”
“She is your mirror now,” the Elder intoned. “Her pain, your pain. Her death, your end.”
I fell to my knees, trembling. Blood—my blood—spattered on the marble, bright as rubies. Gods were not supposed to bleed, but crimson drops fell anyway, sizzling against the divine stone.
