She took a step toward him, reaching out, wanting to pull him back from the edge of the emotional abyss she could feel yawning open in his soul. But the mountain didn't care about a king's broken heart. The mechanical triggers inside the altar, tripped by the dying witches' inverted magic, groaned under the weight of the shifting fault lines. "Alpha! Luna!" the lead vanguard warrior roared, shattering the emotional paralysis of the room as he stepped between the royal pair and a falling sheet of shale. "The upper basin is pancaking! We have to move now!"

the leader yelled. A tall thin witch with an actual hooked nose turned his hands in a circle and chanting something that didn’t sound friendly. Joel sprinted off towards him, picking up a stone off the ground as he passed. The icy, electric sensation of this Smith’s magic filled the air. Joel used all the strength he had and threw the rock at him. The impact echoed through the trees as Smith flew back in a spray of blood and gore.

Strange murals covered the walls—wolves painted beneath moons, witches burning herbs in ceremonial circles, and runes that glowed faintly when Reva passed them. “This place is older than I thought,” she murmured. Viktor looked down the path ahead. “Let’s just hope it still leads where we need it to.” They reached the bottom of the stairs. A cracked stone altar sat in the center of the chamber. Reva touched it, whispering the words Raya had told her. The altar shifted. Stone ground against stone as the base slid aside, revealing a staircase descending into utter darkness. Reva lit a small flame between her palms.

Drake was still fighting Altair, he growled at Alarick as if telling Alarick to stop what he was doing. However, now all the elves were protecting Alarick as Altar ordered. The dragons and forest elves had a hard time breaking through the defenses of the elves and werewolves who were very strong. "Good, Alaric. You won't regret this," said Anna. The blood red moon light began to illuminate the ruby's heart and pulled it out. “Altar's spell was placed on the flat rock. Read it and say June Hanson's name at the end of each lyric," Anna said again.

Elegantly dressed in deep blue robes, he steps around the desk. “How can I help?” He questions. His voice was deep and soothing, and his greying hair was slicked back into a low ponytail, kept there by a rope. “The King wishes for you to activate the witch’s amulet and send this girl to her own world with it to be destroyed there.” The Wizard’s expression becomes alerted to the words and steps closer to me. This was the first time someone had approached me where I felt no fear, I just didn’t know why.

When I woke up, I was in an underground cell chained with silver, there was no means of escaping. I really wanted to see the face of my kidnapper. Who would dare attack an Alpha werewolf? I tried escaping from the chains, but they would not bulge and I was getting weaker and weaker. It was at that moment that I prayed for a miracle from the Moon Goddess if she would listen to my prayers. It wasn't long before the door rattled, and I was hopeful that it was someone who would rescue me. I thought wrong. It was my mate's Father, the leader of the witches coven. I was surprised to see he was behind my kidnapping.

She asked and I stilled. "Why will I reject you, you're my mate." I said and she sighed. "Oh." She replied. "Alpha, I'm back." Aren said and I stood up. "I'll be with you soon." I told her leaving to meet Aren outside. Our hacker and computer operator found information about others easily. "What did you find?" I asked. "She's kinda a rogue, but not really." Aren replied. "Explain." I said. "She was the daughter of the former beta of the Crescent pack, her pack was overthrown and they had a new alpha named Alpha Rick, the alpha that has been really disturbing at times to us." He said and I swallowed, wondering what he did to her.

My mate is so incredibly beautiful; I could stare at him all day and never tire. He laces my fingers with his. “Ready?” he asks with a smile, but as I look into his eyes, I sense a bit of anxiety. “I am,” I say, and we follow the witches’ lead into the forest. We arrive at a clearing with a small waterfall and lake. The witches stood behind a black stone altar set up next to the lake, along with a silk sheet held down by large crystals. On top of the stone altar is a long, braided red cord.

|| Lilac’s POV || Alaric walked around the desk and stopped before an old chest. The ancient chest creaked as he opened it, releasing the scent of dried herbs and old blood. Sunlight streamed through the study windows, illuminating a haunting illustration: a beautiful witch with emerald eyes and silver hair, her hands raised over a kneeling Alpha whose veins blackened where her magic touched him.

Talon’s body rests on the permanent altar, being the highest ranked witch that died in the attack. I spend time at each altar, moving to Talon’s last. I place my hand on his forehead, bending down to kiss his cheek before standing and turning to my coven. The clearing becomes completely silent when I turn around. Taking a deep breath, I begin: “Let us gather together and give support to each other. Join hands to form a chain. This represents our connection to each other and our willingness to be there for each other during this time.” All of those present join hands on the outskirts of the circle, with only me and the bodies of our fallen inside.
