Kaela’s POV The funeral was held at the Voss mansion, and every important wolf family in Paris seemed to be there. The house was covered in black cloth and white funeral lilies. Their smell filled the hall so strongly that it covered Eleanor’s real scent. She had planned even that. She did not want anyone to sense too much from her today.

I unfolded the newspaper slowly and gasped. DEAD WIFE RETURNS: Sansa Vale’s Resurrection Causes Wolfe Inc Stock Value to Crash! I couldn't breathe. Could this be true? Magdalene looked at me sympathetically and nodded, confirming my worst fear. “Wolfe Incorporated is on the verge of bankruptcy."

he whispered and every hair on my body stood instantly. The warrior’s body jerked violently once and then he collapsed dead on the floor. Silence slammed into the hallway and my blood turned ice cold. Was he talking about Mrs. Volkstane? “SHIT.” I roared and moved instantly. “Cassius!” I barked while running. “I’m here!” “Double security around the dungeon NOW. Nobody enters Lily’s cell alone.” “What about…” “The Volkstanes are the target!” I yelled, shifting mid-run, bones cracking violently as my wolf surged forward.

“’Why does it hurt so much! Why do you have wolfsbane in you?’ What is he talking about?” “Oh, that’s nothing,” I grabbed my phone back from her. “She put her hands on her hips. “It’s obviously not nothing. Why did he think you had wolfsbane in you? Did you actually…?” “It’s not a big deal,” I replied. “I’m fine now.” “Dude! Wolfsbane? Wolfsbane!” She raised her voice. “You mean the only poison known to kill werewolves? The shit that’s a death sentence if any pack member’s found in possession of it?”

Neither impulse belonged in the answer she needed from him. “Then it is where you chose to send it,” he said. Valerian’s hand tightened beneath her knees. Karl saw it and kept his voice flat. “You heard her. Infirmary. Now.” Valerian didn’t move.
