Bones snapped and reformed. Muscles expanded. Fur erupted across his skin. His wolf was unlike any other. It was massive… towering. Maverick’s fur was a dark obsidian black, almost swallowing the light around him. His presence alone carried dominance and authority, pressing down on everything in its path. His glowing, ice-cold eyes burned with a ruthless hunger for blood. As Maverick landed heavily on the ground, without hesitation, he lunged forward and slammed into the nearest rogue, his claws striking across its face with brutal force.

Daddy turns to me in a flash and I see that he’s about to get me when there is the sound of a low growl through the trees. Daddy whips around and we both look up in time to see three big wolves coming out of the woods. Two of them are brown, one is gray with white markings. All three are big and shaggy. Dirty and obviously not well fed. And all three have the deep dark brown eyes and the dark furred spot over half of their faces. The rogue mark. A mark that is there in both human and wolf form. The mark that shows that they are unwanted by a pack. Dangerous and unpredictable. Not to be trusted.

The other two wolves emerged from behind the mansion, their fur a darker, more foreboding shade that seemed to blend seamlessly with the shadows. The three wolves padded towards Nicholas, their eyes fixed on their Alpha with a deep, unwavering loyalty. As they drew closer, they fell into step before him, their howls merging with his in a chorus of sorrow and defiance. It locked eyes with the dark brown wolf. Mallory tried moving out of the way but the dark brown wolf snapped at her, keeping her in the area between the two wolves. The dark red wolf backed up and went to lunge. Mallory found herself ducking and the wolf went over her head. It landed in front of Mallory letting out a loud growl and lunged for the dark brown wolf. At the last second Mallory noticed the dark red wolf’s eyes glowing red with an amber ring and knew they were from Red Woods. She was torn between staying with the wolf and continuing her journey for help. If Red Woods were close by she had to let them know what was happening. She took off running.

However, his progress was halted when a massive wolf leapt in front of him, its jaws gaping and its eyes flashing with deadly intent. Alister's mind raced as he assessed the situation.
