This isn’t going to be a fair fight; Colt is definitely stronger than me, but I am going to give it my all. I hear Lila gasp as she watches me shift but then she screams as the barn doors come crashing down and four large wolves enter the barn, setting their sights on us both.

The guards shifted in a split second letting their clothing fall to tatters on the ground around their paws. Little by little I watched as the door began to dent inwards, warping in shape. It looked like a fist slowly pounding it in the same area trying to make it give out. The wolves in front us started a chorus of growling, their fur standing on end and tongues out licking their teeth the more the metal bent in. If it had been somebody on our side of the fight they would definitely not be trying to reach us in such a manner. The witch next to me rose up getting in a fighting stance, letting her skin start to blaze as flames licked the skin of her fingers looking like swirls.

I reach out toward the water like I can pull those moments back, but the surface stays cold and flat, reflecting only what was and what might be. “This is the Mirror of Life,” the voice said, soft but firm. “Like a mirror, it shows your deepest wish. Like the ocean, it can wash away your pain…” It paused, letting the words hang in the air. “But nothing comes without a price.” “What do you mean?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “Look,” the voice said. Slowly, the mirror shimmered, showing the moment I first felt my wolf in the White Clan. I couldn’t shift yet, but I remember the excitement, the strength coursing through me.

River said softly. ‎His voice was different now. gentler, almost protective. ‎ ‎“I understand. But it’s better we stabilize your wolf now… before you lose yourself completely to a power that should be under your control.” ‎ ‎I didn’t respond. ‎ ‎Instead, I slowly turned my head toward the mirror across the room. ‎ ‎And froze. ‎ ‎My reflection stared back at me but it wasn’t me. ‎ ‎My eyes… still glowing green. ‎ ‎My hair… white. Completely white.

I swallowed hard. “Okay,” I murmured, rubbing my eyes. “That’s enough.” I closed them and counted to five before opening them again. The mirror showed exactly what it should have shown. Me. I almost laughed from relief. Then the eyes in the reflection changed. For one heartbeat, they weren’t mine. They were silver. Not the pale silver of Rhydian’s eyes. These were brighter, almost white, with something dark moving behind them. A wolf. I stumbled away from the mirror.

I don't know what I am. Mira walked forward. The girl's brown eyes were wide. Can I touch it? she asked. Luan nodded. Mira knelt. She held out her hand. The honey-colored wolf sniffed her fingers. Its tail wagged once. Twice. Then it was wagging so fast it was almost a blur. Mira laughed. It tickles, she said. The wolf pressed its head into her hand. You are warm, the wolf said. Mira smiled. So are you.

When he raised his head, I saw red -nothing else. When he stood up, holding his stomach and limping towards me, I backed away. Male wolves could heal quicker as they had the strength and power too. In a flash, John stood in front of me, and before I could use my reflexes, he threw me against the mirror with full force, causing the mirror to shatter into my back. The pain was inevitable, ongoing as the sharp shards tore my skin apart. I rolled on my stomach and bit my lip to contain the scream.

Instead, a cold, dismissive ripple passed through my consciousness, brushing off my frantic questions as if they were nothing more than a minor annoyance. "Do not ask questions this early," my wolf replied, her mental voice dripping with calmness, "Instead, I think you should take a good look at the mirror. You might find something surprising staring back at you." I let out a breath that was half-laugh, half-groan. “How am I supposed to look at myself when the mirror is completely broken?” I asked sharply, my patience wearing dangerously thin. “I don't even think I can look at myself through the cracks.”

“For your first run.” I lowered my head and growled, nipping at his flank in response. “You weren’t exactly outpacing me, Alpha.” His deep, rumbling laugh echoed through our link as he leaned down and nudged my shoulder with his muzzle. “Cheeky little mouse.” I padded closer to the water, my reflection staring back at me. The wolf in the mirror was both strange and familiar—sleek and powerful, with piercing golden eyes that seemed to glow brighter in the moonlight. Kael came to stand beside me, his imposing form a stark contrast to my smaller frame.

A wolf jumped to Phineas, and he blasted a fire spell directly at the wolf. "Look, coming here weakened me so I couldn't teleport anymore." In fact, now it is the right time to transform into his wolf form as he couldn't use more of his magic. Varick glanced at his direction as he plunged a small dagger directly to the gray wolf's heart.
