Huge is an understatement of how the library looks. “You're cute.” Billie says, looking at me softly. I ignore her and run to the first section of books. They are so pretty laid out that I don't want to stain them with my touch. I've found my spot here. “Where can I find books on wolves?” “Come with me,” Billie leads us to another section at the end of the library. I wonder why it's this far. “Humans with wolves are called werewolves and werewolves are blessed with a second half which are called soulmates,” she plucks out different books and places them on the small coffee table.

The first thing that caught my attention was the book she tried to hide from me in the library. It laid on her bed. I picked it up. “Lupus obscura.” I muttered out the title of the book, confused about the meaning. I flipped through the pages of the book, the meaning turned out to be a latin inspired word, meaning ‘Dark wolf.’ Dark wolf? I skimmed through. There's something written about red-eyed wolves and how dangerous they can be when they transform. It's the same thing Jacob talked about. He was right. Claudia is dangerous.

A rustle of snow. A shadow moved. Then— A lone wolf stepped out of the darkness. Massive. Black fur. Eyes glowing silver. Rylan stiffened instantly. “Not possible.” Kade swore. “That can’t be—” Lyra’s heartbeat tripped. The wolf lowered its head… in a bow. “What is that?” she whispered. Rylan’s voice was barely human. “A sentinel.” Lyra’s breath caught. Sentinels were ancient wolves said to serve only one bloodline—one house. A house believed extinct.

Elena was ready to force her way into the quiet place when baby Katerina sat up with silver eyes that felt different. "Elena Volkov," a voice said, was older than baby Katerina or Elizabeth and made Elena's neck hair stand up. "Since 1647, I've waited in the quiet place for someone strong enough to hear my warning as the first silver wolf. Toward my father’s resurrection. Guards came from everywhere. We fought through them. Claws and teeth and desperation. Blood splattered the corrupted earth. Some was theirs. Some was ours. I lost track of who fell. Who died. I just kept moving forward. Kept pushing toward the centre. A massive wolf blocked our path. Bigger than any natural wolf. His eyes glowed blue. Another cursed bloodline. He roared a challenge. I met him head-on. Shifted into my silver form. The First Blood surged through me. We collided like thunder. He was strong but I was furious. I tore through him. Left him bleeding and broken and moved on.

Books lay open across the desk, and papers covered almost every available surface. I reached for another old book that had been tucked away at the very back of one of the shelves. Unlike the others, it was noticeably thinner, its leather cover faded with age. As I brushed away the dust that had settled over it, three words slowly came into view. The White Wolves. My heartbeat quickened as I stared at the title for a brief moment before opening the book without wasting another second. “Finally.” The first few pages were filled with handwritten accounts describing the White Wolves as though they had truly existed.

I have to have more, but before I get the chance to get what I want, I’m being kicked and sent flying. My body slams into the ground, knocking the wind out of me, but before my opponent can attack, I’m up and moving again, but when I slam into the wolf in front of me this time, I feel something in me shift, and it’s like my power is disappearing completely until I’m left staggering backwards in confusion. ‘Maverick,’ I hear again as the wolf stares at me with pleading eyes. ‘What’s wrong with you?’ What's wrong with me? There’s nothing wrong with me. I’ve never felt so alive in my life, and it’s all because I got to taste the sweet taste of blood, but now that I’ve tasted it, I want more.

So far I had five books which were classics that I knew would peak my interest such as Little Women, A Tale Of Two Cities, Wuthering Heights and others. All of these books were about humans and I admired the wide selection of books that this room had. I tried to find one that was all about werewolves like the library back at my pack had, but I found only one that was labelled 'In The Beginning' and it was written by none other than the eldest werewolf alive who was Gareth Coleman. In the synopsis, it stated his life as an old werewolf dated back to the time when werewolves were discovered and ended when werewolves were thought to be just myths.
