She says before she turns back to wrapping the gifts that she had been working on wrapping. She took the money that she had gotten for Christmas from her aunts and uncles to go shopping to buy her own gifts for everyone. She had asked Liv to take her. So this morning Liv had given her a roll of wrapping paper and a bag of bows to wrap the gifts herself. Instead of doing it alone in the bedroom so that nobody could see what she was doing, she chose to wrap them under the tree in plain view of everyone, so that she would not miss any of the conversation. Everyone just avoided looking at her stack of gifts.

"So we agree. We stay away from each other. Act like adults." "Absolutely." He was looking at my mouth now. "Very adult. Very appropriate." Neither of us moved. Neither looked away. The sound of footsteps on the stairs broke the spell. We jumped apart just as Sophie's head popped through the opening. "There you guys are! Sorry that took forever. Did you find the boxes?" "Yeah, got them," I said, voice only slightly unsteady. We carried the boxes downstairs and spent the rest of the afternoon decorating. Sophie put on Christmas music. Jason made hot chocolate. It was exactly what Christmas should feel like.

Christmas was going to be a disaster. And maybe… something much worse.

Completely overwhelmed. She didn't know what Christmas was. But she was absolutely certain she approved. Meanwhile Harper sat on the couch looking enormous. The twins were due in a few months. Daisy wasn't far behind. Both women surrounded by blankets. Both looking tired. Both looking happy. "Okay." Noah clapped his hands. "Present time." The children erupted immediately. Paper flew. Bows flew. Somehow Theo got tangled in ribbon. Nobody asked how. Lillie mostly enjoyed the wrapping paper.

“What?” “A dollar. You swore Waxlyn. You’ve got to give me something valuable”. She gasped. “You did not just say that”. “I did. Come on. “I’ll be your personal servant, Aurora. Whatever you need.” She turns to look at him, arching an eyebrow at the serious tone he uses, even though the amusement in his eyes gives him away. “A servant, huh? I didn’t realize that was included in the list of Christmas decorations.” “Well, now you know.” He slides his hand over hers. “I can wrap presents, hang wreaths, turn on the Christmas lights... and if you want, I’ll even dress up as Santa Claus.” Aurora bursts out laughing at the image.

As I come in through the door, I find Dom and Shel in the living room, Connie had been called into work and Jason was in the basement wrapping something special for me for Christmas, according to Dom with a wicked grin. I grin back at him as I hurry downstairs. As I come through the door, I find Jason sitting on the bed and has already finished wrapping the gift that's on the bed in front of him. It's a medium size square box wrapped in green and red striped paper with a silver bow on top. "Hey, baby," he says grinning at me as he takes a hot glare over my body, making me instantly molten for him.

Holly “There,” Holly whispered, carefully placing the last piece of tape. She smiled at her work. The wrapping paper was neatly folded around the corners and she’d even made the tape look nice. She wrote Nathan’s name in neat print on the corner. It was possibly the best wrapping she’d ever done on a present. It was just a copy of A Christmas Carol, but it seemed like the perfect Christmas Eve present for Nathan. She’d agonized over which book to get him for the Christmas Eve tradition, but had finally settled on this one.

I hung up before my ears bled to deafness. “Yep,” I drop the chopped onions in the bowl with some salt, black pepper, and green chili. “So have you wrapped the gifts as I told you and with the ribbon?” I look at the table behind me. The golden wrap and the red ribbon are still lying there beside the gifts as we brought them yesterday. I could have asked the salesgirl girl to do that for me but no, happiness is when you wrap the gifts and get the Christmas spirit as told by Aunt Mary. “Yep,” I tell her instead and pour the batter on the frying pan.

He loved snow, he loved Christmas, and he loved this family so much. I wrap my arms around myself and smile. “Here’s to the new beginning, baby. I promise I’ll protect you, no matter what I have to become for it.”
